Vacuum pump for THG
Busch donated a high performance vacuum pump to the Theodor-Heuss-School.
The principal Wolfgang Stocker and the responsible person for natural sciences Karlheinz Abt were very thankful when Dr. Karl Busch and Sami Busch handed over the vacuum pump shortly before summer break.
The vacuum pump will mainly be used in physics in order to make different experiments.
Maulburg's company Busch has been obliged to the THG for many years.
Since 2001 Sami Busch has been chairman of the "Freunde des Gymnasiums e.V.".
Dr. Karl Busch was also chairman for many years and was appointed to the honorary chairman in 2007.
The now donated vacuum pump was produced in the Maulburger Busch manufacturing plant. It is a pump version, which was constructed by Karl Busch 45 years ago. The follow-up models are still market leader and over two million of those vacuum pumps from Maulburg are used all over the world.

Students from Zell Realschule visit Busch
26 students from class 9e of Zell Realschule secondary school recently visited Busch in Maulburg to have an insight into the daily work life of a modern industrial company. This company tour was offered by the school within the scope of the "BORS Kompakt" programme.
Students and their teacher Werner Knoblich were guided through the various production departments where we make vacuum pumps and vacuum systems for the world market. In a presentation given to the students, they were informed where vacuum pumps are used and learnt that numerous things in everyday life could not be produced or would only be available in far lower quality without a vacuum.
The international atmosphere at Busch was interesting for the students, who all opted for languages as their main subject in school. The international nature of the company became clear in the shipping department, where vacuum pumps for various other Busch companies are packed for shipment around the world. This is a good example of how globalisation also creates a large number of jobs at home.
The students also learnt that the Wiesental region is the cradle of vacuum technology. In 1885, Karl Wittig, grandfather of Dr. Karl Busch, invented the rotary vane compressor in Zell. Its technical and functional principle was later also applied to build vacuum pumps and is used in millions today. The students were given the chance to ask questions on professional training and discuss what they had seen during a snack with all participants.

VIP visit from Virginia
The excellent international relations of the Maulburg-based company Busch were demonstrated again this week: the Mayor of Virginia Beach in the US state of Virginia and a group of representatives visited the vacuum technology specialists based in Maulburg, which also runs a large production site in Virginia Beach.
Mayor Will Sessoms and his wife, Beverly, the Director of Economic Management Warren Harris and Robert Ruhl, Business Development and Marketing Manager in Virginia Beach, spent a whole day in Maulburg. The visitors discussed the possibilities for future business developments and investments and also enjoyed a guided tour of the production site at the Busch headquarters. Busch has operated a production site and a sales company in Virginia Beach since as early as 1975, where vacuum pumps and systems are manufactured for the North American and to some extent also the Pacific region. Virginia Beach is located right on the east coast of the USA, about 350 kilometres south of Washington D.C. With 438,000 inhabitants, it is the largest city in Virginia. Apart from tourism – the city has a 45 kilometre-long sand beach – there are also many industrial businesses. The well-known German companies Stihl, Bosch and also Busch have their main US plants in Virginia Beach. Busch has been nurturing its links with the regional politicians since the foundation of the company in the city. The personal contacts and the close partnership with the official public representatives and politicians also include the federal state governor, who was also a guest at Busch in Maulburg a few years ago.

Vacuum central systems for packaging
In its latest edition the "Fleischereitechnik" magazine reported about a Busch manufactured vacuum central system, which is used by the company Hans Kupfer & Sohn GmbH & Co. KG.
Kupfer, one of the most modern and biggest production plants in Europe, produces 28.000 tons of meat per annum in the Bavarian Heilsbronn.
Concerning vacuum supply, Kupfer completely relies on Busch. A Busch central vacuum system supplies the company with the required vacuum that mainly serves the meat packaging.
Due to the central vacuum system, which was especially designed for the company's requirements, Kupfer was able to decrease its operation costs drastically.
Since the vacuum supply is located outside the manufacturing area, it is classified as a "High-Risk-Hygiene area". Other than that there is no rejected heat inside the manufacturing area, which results in an energy reduction. Offprints of this article can be ordered at info@busch.de

Busch on the grid at Silverstone
Busch is sponsoring the 'TUfast' racing team from the Technische Universität München (Technical University of Munich). Each year, this team of budding engineers builds a race car for the 'Formula SAE' student design competition and competes in races. 'Formula SAE' was set up in 1979 by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in the USA and, first and foremost, is a design competition giving a practical opportunity to convey extensive teamwork, project management and cost management skills to future engineers during their studies.
Busch is providing the vacuum technology that is required to manufacture the individual carbon fibre components in the infusion process. The hybrid chassis is manufactured in a 'monocoque' or one-piece design, which places the highest technological demands on the design and manufacturing process. The vacuum pump used by the team ensures that the mould containing the carbon fibres is uniformly saturated with the resin and that air and any generated gases are reliably discharged.
The 'TUfast' racing team will next see action at the Silverstone circuit in the UK, where their focus will lie not only on winning, but also on evaluating the safety, design and costing of the newly designed race car.

Innovation awards for Busch
Busch received two international innovation awards this October: In the middle of the month Busch received the "JEC Asia Award" in Singapore. This award appreciates the innovative activity of Busch in the field of nano technology and the development of composites materials. Last week Busch received the "AVK Innovation Award" in Stuttgart for the same development. Not only in the plastics industry Busch has been active this fall. In October Busch presented its vacuum pumps and systems at nine different trade shows in Germany, USA, Poland, the Netherlands, China and Singapore.
The innovations in the nano technology market segment was developed by the Swiss company Composites Busch in cooperation with Huntsman. Huntsman is the leading manufacturer of resin systems based in Basle, Switzerland.
In practice the new technology was used for the creation of a new generation of Busch ice hockey sticks. Ostensibly, ice hockey sticks have not much in common with vacuum pumps. However. the results of the research will be integrated into the development of new products in the field of vacuum technology.
In Porrentruy Switzerland, Busch produces ice hockey sticks of carbon and fibre glass. These are formed and afterwards resin, which was developed with nano technology, is injected. This is the first ice hockey stick worldwide, which consists only of one piece.
This production method has also the advantage that the ice hockey stick can be adapted to the individual needs of an ice hockey player. Therefore many top international ice hockey players order a Busch ice hockey stick where they can have an influence on the characteristics of the stick such as flexibility and the geometric form.
In other applications of plastics processing Busch vacuum technique is used. This was demonstrated at the plastics trade show Fakuma in Friedrichshafen, which also took place in October. At the exhibition Busch displayed vacuum systems, which are used for material loading at plastics processing machines.

Busch employees celebrate together with Swiss colleagues
Maulburg. Last weekend Busch invited all employees to a summer celebration in a pavilion on the premises of Busch Maulburg. With more than 400 employees, 170 from the Swiss companies Ateliers Busch S.A. in Chevenez, Composites Busch S.A. in Porrentruy and Busch AG in Magden, the pavilion was crowded.
The performance of the Busch Brass Band, which was formed up for this occasion, took centre stage of the event. The wish of all Busch employees to forget the concerns of everyday life was fulfilled.
Ayla, Sami and Kaya Busch welcomed all employees in the pavilion. In his speech Kaya Busch talked about the successful history of the company and also showed parallels to the owner family. He also emphasised that Busch is still a family-owned business. Ayhan Busch and Dr. Karl Busch founded the company in 1963, the same year they got married.
At the summer celebration also the 75th birthday of Ayhan Busch and the 80th birthday of Dr. Karl Busch were celebrated. In the name of 2200 employees worldwide the attendant General Managers handed over a book with photos of all employees in 55 companies.
The plants in Chevenez and Maulburg have developed a new vacuum pump together which was also handed over. The most difficult thing according to Ralf Kappertz was not developing the pump but making sure that Dr. Busch and Ayhan Busch don't discover this secret project.
The employees of Busch Composites in Porrentruy gave Ayhan and Dr. Karl Busch a special edition of a hockey stick. Composites Busch is not only a manufacturer of components for the vacuum technology but also one of the biggest manufacturers of hockey sticks.
A big surprise was the performance of the Busch Brass Band. The band consisting of 17 people had formed up for this event and was the highlight of the celebration.
At the end the Busch employees came up with something special for Dr. Karl Busch and his wife: A birthday cake with illuminated sparklers was carried in while the Brass Band played "Happy Birthday" and everybody else sang along.

The wind blows on the coast, the vacuum comes from Maulburg
Maulburg. Last year, Busch supplied a large number of vacuum systems for production of wind turbines worldwide. The call for environmentally-friendly energy production is becoming louder, and this in turn means that there are more and more wind energy farms everywhere. Above all, so-called offshore wind farms, with increasingly large turbine installations, are currently being built off sea coasts.
Manufacture of rotor blades requires vacuum pumps produced by Busch, based in Maulburg, Germany.
The rotor blades for wind turbines are made of plastic. This plastic flows into the mould in liquid form under vacuum and then cures. The rotor blades, measuring up to 60 metres in length, require correspondingly dimensioned vacuum plants. Busch produces these plants individually and according to customer requirements. In recent years, a number of firms have been established on the German North Sea and Baltic coasts that specialise in production of such offshore wind turbines. They all trust in the reliability of vacuum technology from Maulburg. The failure of a vacuum plant during the curing process, which lasts several hours, can cause a loss of several hundred thousand euros. The reason why all these companies have been established directly on the coast is obvious: due to their size, the up to 60 m long rotor blades cannot be transported on roads. They must be loaded from the production hall directly onto ships that bring them to the offshore wind farms. The plants are assembled directly on-site. Once the plants are assembled in the water, they have a height of up to 180 metres above the water level. Busch mainly delivers vacuum plants for these applications to Northern Europe, India, the Far East and North America. Busch engineers in the respective countries consult customers on site and provide technical support for the plants, and at the same time stay in close contact with the specialists in Maulburg.
